This video, with accompanying instructor’s guide, familiarizes students with tools used by electricians.

Women tend to come to trades courses with less experience using tools informally and can therefore find tool identification difficult. This video will help your female (and male) students be more successful in your trades classes.

Inside the Electrician’s Toolbox Video:

After a general introduction of electricity -- electrons, current, kilowatts and the journey of electrical power from utility company to home -- this 27-minute program examines the work materials and tools commonly used by an electrician.

Wires, cables, conduits, boxes, receptacles and switches are illustrated, and the tools required to cut and run cable or conduit, detect and test voltage and wire or connect fixtures are shown in action. Wiring diagrams and blueprints are also discussed, and safety is stressed throughout. The DVD concludes by highlighting resources that are available to those interested in becoming electricians.
